Building a website is no doubt a difficult task and requires extensive technical expertise. Even the simplest website requires time, money and expertise to do well. That’s where Wix and WordPress come in. The main difference to understand between Wix and WordPress is that Wix is a website builder with unlimited features, however, the WordPress is a full fledge content management system. Both platforms allow you to create websites, and they have the same goal: to help you create impressive and easy-to-use websites.
Getting started with Wix is a simple process. When you log in, you’ll be asked what type of website you want to create, and then you’ll be taken directly to a collection of templates for you to choose from. Switching to WordPress and taking the first step into the CMS can be a little intimidating, and that’s because the service doesn’t hold your hand too much. There are thousands of articles and tutorials covering all the simple steps, from creating a new website to choosing the right theme, but it can take time to learn the nuances of WordPress.
For this round, we have to look at two aspects: the organizational structure and the ability to apply in-depth strategies. Wix offers users hundreds of website templates (all responsive), and the fact that you can add your own widgets makes it a great place to start. WordPress, on the other hand, only offers 15 keywords for your site. This is disappointing until you realize that there are thousands of other themes on sites like ThemeForest, Beautiful Environment and Themeisle.
Wix and WordPress offer two ways to store your data. The first completely eliminates the work and takes care of the security aspects on its own, except for the basics like choosing a good password and using two-step verification. You register, pay, and keep your site while your checks keep disappearing. WordPress, on the other hand, places the burden of website security on your shoulders. You have to keep up with the latest updates, check for errors, choose the right host, and manage everything else yourself.
Wix doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to search engine optimization (SEO), but rest assured that’s because Wix was a Flash-based website builder in the past. However, when the company switched to the new HTML5 platform in 2012, it added modern SEO options like customizable URLs, page titles and descriptions, as well as 301 redirects and the ability to add canonical URLs to pages.
WordPress, on the other hand, lets you do anything you want. Not right away, but with the right plugins, your SEO options are limitless. Yogurt is good, but there are other healthy alternatives. Deciding which platform to use to build your website can be a difficult decision. Each decision has its pros and cons, but once you’ve taken that first step, you’re ready for a future career as a web developer. We chose WordPress, but that doesn’t mean Wix isn’t an option – in fact, it’s a great tool for creating simple, responsive websites. That’s because it offers a wide range of features for different types of users.
